Your winter Reading List

Winter is a great time to start reading, especially when it's cold and wet as it has been lately, there is nothing better than laying around and getting into a good book.


I asked the question on my face book what are your favourite Books that you've read, and we had a really great response from people as to what the BEST books are you have ever read.


So here is that list! In no particular order, Happy Winter Reading my friends.


1) The Man who planted Canberra written by Robert Macklin & DR. Jon Gray.

It tells the story of Charles Weston who planted Three Million Trees that would transform the landscape of what would one day become Australia's Capital City Canberra.

2) Circle of Friends written by Maeve Binchy

This story is set in fictional town Knockglen in rural Ireland, it centres around a group of university students and revolves around friendship, loyalty, and love.


3) The Horse Whisperer written by Nicholas Evans

This story is about hardship, loss and love and the ability to realise the inner strength we all have to adapt and overcome situations in life. This is also a wonderful movie starry Robert Redford and a young Scarlotte Johansson.

4) Catch me if you Can, written by Frank Abagnale

This is a phenomenal story and semi autobiography of Frank Abagale Jr's con artist life. The things he got away with were both amazing and fanciful, Good on him. Also, a major motion film starring a young and Handsome Leonardo Dicaprio

5) Angela's Ashes written by Frank McCourt

This is one of my all-time favourite books, the story is Frank McCourts encounter of his childhood. It depicts the family struggles with poverty and the great depression and how if greatly had an effect on Irland. Great read and also a great movie.


6) Anything Written by Bryce Courtney

Bryce Courtney is by far my most favourite author of all time and to choose a favourite book would be near impossible for me to decide. I love his story telling ability and how he uses historical fact fused with fiction, he has truelly been an inspritation in my writing

7) The Pillars of the Earth written by Ken Follett

This is a great story starting in 12th Century England and the vision of one man to build a cathedral. The story revolves around, love, loyalty, and resilience and features how the monarchy and church have such a hold on society.

8) River God written by Wilbur Smith

This is the first book in the Egyptian Series, it is a story about Love, deception and how far will you go to create your own destiny.

9) Blackout written by Connie Willis

Is a science fiction novel that explores time travel and the impacts on history that can happen if you alter that reality.

10) Outback Odessey written by Paul Rushworth-Brown

The story follows Jimmy Brown who moves to Australia under the Big Brother movement and finds himself working on a sheep station in outback Australia. Paul Rushworth-Brown brings the Australian outback to life with this amazing story of resilience, strength and determination in the 1950's era. Great read.
