Have you ever thought about writing? You could write a poem or a Novel, or you could start by writing your own story.

So many of us have regrets about not asking our grandmothers & grandfathers more about their life stories, if we could have them back for one day, what would we want to know?

So rather than having those regrets in the future, why don't we start now, ask your relatives to write their life stories so you can read them and all that history can be retold for generations to come.

People often say "But I'm not that interesting" I call BS on that, as everyone has a story to tell and you might not think you're interesting but someone else might find it inspiring or need to hear your story.

So, here are my tips to get you started if you're thinking about writing:

1) Think about a timeline and draw it on paper, when were you born and where you are today and fill in the in-between- (This will help you get a structure)

2) If you are wanting to write a novel, create and draw a mind map of your setting, characters, timeframes, other supporting characters. A mind map is a good visual aid to help you establish the bones of your story

3) Just start writing, don't be worried about your grammar, punctuation and spelling, just write what comes naturally to get into a flow or a rhythm and you can fix it up later

4) Ask your family or friends questions about their lives, write it down if they aren't willing to write it, but don't leave it to long as once they are gone all that history goes with them and unfortunately you can't get it back

5) Writing is great for your mind; to write it on paper or on a computer gets it out of your mind, it can become a very therapeutic experience

But above all have fun with writing!

If you have any tips or hint's you'd like to share, leave a comment.
